Kitten Handling

Everyone is in agreement that kittens are great, but most people are unaware that one of the most pleasurable things about having a kitten is also one of the most important: handling! From a young age, kittens need to be handled, cuddled, kissed and played with by humans, otherwise they will become unsocialised or feral. It seems like it is too good to be true, but handling kittens is an incredibly important job. Kittens should not be left to their own devices under the assumption that they will come to you when they are ready, as this is simply not the case. A lot of people believe that kittens will just decide that they want to be cuddled one day, when really kittens need to be shown from a very early age that humans are nothing to be scared of, and that cuddles can be very enjoyable! So, if you ever find yourself with a litter of kittens, please start handling them from as early as three weeks old! Please see Suggestions For Settling A New Kitten for more information on how to settle a new kitten who is shy or unhandled.
